GTG Builders recently completed a project in Central New Jersey that was near and dear to our hearts. The project transformed a dated kitchen and screened-in porch into a stunning, open-concept kitchen and all-season room addition. We were elated to showcase our remodeling skills, combining indoor-outdoor living and merging touches of history and modernity in the creative aspects of this New Jersey remodel. Our process ensured our clients were heard and understood from day one and that the finished product exceeded these hopes and expectations.

Client Goals

Our clients wanted to create a space that allowed their friends and family to gather for holidays, birthdays, and special events. A freshly renovated kitchen and all-season outdoor space would give their New Jersey home the space the flexibility to do that. We were excited to build home additions for this client that would send their loved ones home to New Jersey for the holidays. They envisioned a space filled with natural light, featuring a fireplace where family and friends could gather, enjoying the space no matter the weather. Our portfolio of beautiful, varied work convinced them that we were the builder for the job.

Project Challenges

One of the significant challenges of this project was that the original home had a screened-in porch in the area where the new addition was going to be. We removed the previous structure and replaced it with a new foundation attached to the existing basement.

Another challenge was maintaining the integrity of the existing bluestone patio. GTG Builders skillfully removed minimal parts of the patio. We worked with local, trusted hardscape crews to restore it, ensuring it connected beautifully to the new living space without compromising its original charm. Finally, all mechanicals were brought from the existing part of the house into the new area and rearranged in the kitchen area to fit the new floor plan. This is the nitty-gritty of a kitchen renovation but is also one of the biggest challenges.

The New Jersey Sunroom Addition and Kitchen Renovation Design Details

The project features a modern open floor plan that elegantly connects the kitchen and the new dining area. Large Anderson A Series windows flood the space with natural light, creating an airy and inviting atmosphere. The heart of the new kitchen is the expansive island and peninsula, perfect for family and friends to gather around during holidays and special events.

A Kitchen Renovation and a Stone Veneer Backsplash

We kept the old world meets new world motif with a stone veneer backsplash. This added a textured, natural element to the kitchen that our clients loved and entirely transformed the ambiance of the kitchen. The echoes of history didn’t stop here in this kitchen renovation. We added a custom antique brass hood to give this kitchen an eye-catching statement piece that also served a practical purpose. A perfect conversation starter! Since we live in a high-tech world, pop-up outlets were integrated into the countertops for that sleek, modern look that keeps everything plugged in but low profile.

All-Season Sunroom Addition

We can’t let our southern neighbors have all the sunroom fun. We loved the thought that our remodeling work would brighten this family’s days with a sunroom addition that allowed for indoor-outdoor living. We replaced the screened-in porch with an all-season room addition, allowing our clients to enjoy the outdoors any time of year. We were able to achieve indoor/outdoor living nirvana in this New Jersey sunroom addition by tying it to a beautiful, pre-existing bluestone patio while preserving the patio. GTG Builders was able to remove minimal parts of the patio to limit the disturbance and damage and then, with the help of local hardscape crews, restore it to a modern bluestone patio while connecting it to the new all-season room. We finished the aesthetic of this New Jersey sunroom addition with a standing seam metal roof and Hardie board and batten siding - ensuring that the outside of the home was just as charming as the inside.

Decorative Ceiling Beams & White Oak Floors

The decorative ceiling beams transformed this all-season room addition into a room reminiscent of a great hall somewhere in Europe. Only in this case did the light drenching the room warm up the space, putting the sun in the sunroom addition. The white oak hardwood floors help keep the space gleaming in a brightened-up, old-world style.

Rumford-Inspired Fireplace Design

In keeping with the slight medieval flair, this masonry fireplace was inspired by Rumford design principles and custom wood paneling. It serves as a cozy focal point, tying in all angles and providing warmth in colder months and ambiance all year long.
