4 Winter Activities for Families in Central New Jersey

Winter is coming quickly now, and with the season comes cold weather, snow and ice. If you've got a family, it's no doubt you're looking for activities that can help you and the kids through the long days indoors. These family-friendly activities give you and the little ones something to do, even when there's a chill in the air.

1. Visit New Jersey's Adventure Aquarium

Where: Adventure Aquarium, 1 Riverside Drive, Camden, NJ 08103

Website: https://www.adventureaquarium.com/

Contact: 844-474-FISH (3474)

Are your kids crazy about sharks? How about piranhas? At New Jersey's Adventure Aquarium in Camden, kids enjoy indoor attractions like two waterfalls, faux thunderstorms and the only great hammerhead shark on exhibit in the United States. You'll see hippos, learn about ocean and water life, and view impressive displays of underwater plants. With more than 8,500 aquatic species, you can spend the whole day at the Adventure Aquarium and not get your fill.

2. Participate in Ice Rink Bumper Cars

Where: Ocean Hockey Supply, 197 Chambers Bridge Road, Brick NJ 08723

Website: https://www.oceanhockey.com/bumper-cars-on-ice/

Contact: 732-477-4411

Bumper cars are a classic ride at the Boardwalk and amusement parks, but when winter comes, outdoor bumper cars tend to be shut down. If you miss the bumper cars and don't know where to go, check out Ocean Hockey Supply's Ice Rink Bumper Cars.

They look less like cars and more like inflatable tubes. Kids use a joy stick in the center of the tube to steer their way around the ice rink. It's great fun for kids of most ages. Check out their website for information about dates and times.

3. Check Out the Planetarium

Where: Raritan Valley Community College Planetarium, 118 Lamington Road Branchburg, NJ 08876

Website: https://www.raritanval.edu/community-resources/planetarium

Phone: 908-526-1200

Do you live with a little scientist or astronomer? Maybe you live with someone who spends their time talking about comets, planets and the movement of the stars? If so, then a planetarium is the perfect place for you to go this winter! Bring your kids to the Raritan Valley Community College Planetarium for a show about aliens, astronomy, or a laser show featuring some of your favorite music. Shows vary nightly, so check out their schedule to find the right show for you.

4. Visit the Indoor Amusement Park

Where: iPlay America, 110 Schanck Rd, Freehold, NJ 07728

Website: https://www.iplayamerica.com/

Phone: 732-577-8200

If you love the Boardwalk and you're sad when it's too cold to go outside, you can get your amusement park fix at an indoor facility. iPlay America features all the fun activities that you would find at a standard amusement park, from indoor roller coasters to bumper cars, laser tag, drop rides and more. It's the perfect place to bring a party or just to hang out on a cold winter afternoon. Bring the kids and stay all day!
