Central New Jersey is the place to be if you like to golf! With mild falls and springs, and overall sunny summers, New Jersey is a great state for golfing. While the New Jersey landscape is full of private golf courses, there are many affordable gems open to the public in Central New Jersey. Whether it's the time spent on the green that you love, or lounging and relaxing in a restaurant near the golf course, we've found the perfect public golf courses for you.

 

1. Hominy Hill

Located in Colts Neck, Hominy Hill is a golfer's golf course, with pristine green grass and endless golfing challenges for the most experienced players. The beautifully maintained grounds boast three par-5 holes for those golfers who like difficult courses. Hominy Hill is often called the number one public golf course in New Jersey. People who visit Hominy Hill often comment that the staff are courteous, the course itself is a great challenge, and the food at the snack bar is said to be very good.

 

2. Meadows at Middlesex Golf Course

Located in Plainsboro, The Meadows at Middlesex Golf Course is an 18-hole golf course with locker rooms, electric carts and a full-service restaurant that gets excellent reviews. Featuring six par-3 holes and four par-5 holes, the Meadows at Middlesex Golf Course is appropriate for beginners as well as experienced golfers. Visitors comment that the Meadows at Middlesex may not be as attractive as some other golf courses in the area, but it's reasonably priced, pleasantly challenging, and well-maintained.

 

3. Neshanic Valley

Neshanic Valley Golf Course, located in Neshanic Station is a relatively new golf course with generous fairways and a variety of hazards that create fun challenges. Visitors to Neshanic Valley comment on the excellent golfing lessons, tasty food and magnificent grounds. Rates at the Neshanic Valley are on par with other public golf courses in the state. This is a fine course for learning to golf, but experienced golfers can also enjoy a relaxing afternoon.

 

4. Heron Glen

Heron Glen, located in Ringoes, is a popular but idyllic golf course with challenging holes and an interesting and varied layout. People who visit the course comment on the pace of play (well regulated), the fairness of the holes. With friendly staff in the pro shop and an excellent restaurant where you can sit down to eat, you can easily spend an entire day enjoying your time at Heron Glen. Heron Glen also has space for rent and is popular for weddings, bridal showers and other formal events.

 

5. Raritan Landing Golf Course

Raritan Landing Golf Course is another hidden gem among public golf courses in New Jersey. Located in Piscataway, Raritan Landing has been around for about 30 years and is a delightful course for people who enjoy playing near the water hazards (including a pond and two creeks). A narrow fairway makes Raritan Landing more challenging than some other public golf courses in New Jersey. Many people enjoy the low traffic at Raritan Landing, where you can play at your own pace without pressure from many other golfers.
